Postcard of a Manatee (Trichechus manatus)Marine Life. The manatee is primarily nocturnal and spends its day browsing on aquatic vegetation, consuming from 60 to 100 pounds per day. They are moderately social, embracing each other with their flippers and occasionally press their thick lips together in a “kiss”. They propel their body using their hind ends and use their flippers and tails for steering and stabilization. Ecological studies are being made in a effort to restore this species.
